Day by day, I think things are starting to look up. Dave has seemed a little stronger and little more engaged each of the last few days. I've been trying to spend some time at the hospital each morning since that seems to be his best time. He's usually up for getting out of bed and taking a walk around the ward (2 or 3 laps), and then he can stay sitting up in a chair long enough to beat me at a game of cribbage (he's been getting insanely good hands, and for once I don't mind losing - too much).
The lytic they've been pushing into his drainage tube in an attempt to break through membranes and drain some of the fluid that has been pooled in his abdomen was a success. On Friday afternoon, they pushed 50 cc's of lytic and two hours later retrieved 250 cc's (they cap the drain and give it a couple hours to do its thing). Yesterday, they pushed another 50 and got close to 200 back. When I left the hospital this evening, they IR doctor was pushing another 50 and said there's just a small pocket of fluid remaining which they hoped to drain tonight. Finally - something that feels like a success!
We still haven't heard anything about a possible release date, but I'm hoping it will be sometime this week.

Shannon, was getting worried so nice to hear things are progressing well! BTW that "lytic" that was given was most likely the one I support, t-pa. I was so happy to read about how aggressive the IR has been.
Hug to you and Dave and the kiddos. I hope to get a care package out this week for sure!!
Love and aloha from the islands..

Shannon, my heart aches for you and your family! I am so glad you have finally have some good news. It seems like forever since you've had any.
Again, I am so grateful that, incredibly enough, you can manage to share your thoughts and the hospital happenings with all of out here that are so worried. Thank you.
I know in my heart that Dave will be fine, but the toll this must be taking on you..........
You're in our prayers always.

Oh my gosh! I've been off line for the last 2 weeks and so much has happened. I assumed things were progressing along at home and Dave was getting better each day. I'm so sorry to hear about the setback! I am happy to hear that the fluid is getting drained and the pain meds are getting lower. Now to get rid of the Staph! How are things going with the kids? I hope you have some help and aren't dealing with this alone. If there is anything I can do from here, please please please let me know! I wish I could be there to help you both. Just know that I think about you every day and am sending hugs and kisses your way.
Love, Cindy
I have a funny story for you...
The other night I was finishing up the dishes... had the dishwasher almost fully loaded. The dog came over to sniff around the plates etc.. in the lower tray. His collar got hooked on the edge of the dishwasher bottom basket and he paniced and jumped backwards, pulling the entire lower tray/basket full of dishes out of the dishwasher. He continued to run backwards to get away from this monster that was attacking him. Dishes started flying out of the basket and crashing on the tile floor which scared him even more so he kept going. By the time I caught him he had broken 4 bowls, 4 dinner plates and 2 salad plates and spread silverware around the entire kitchen. (the basket was still attached to his collar) Darran came running downstairs because he thought the china cabinet had fallen over. It was something that you only think can happen in movies. The poor dog won't go anywhere near the dishwasher now. He thinks it's out to get him. :-)

Hello! I went to school in Chile when Dave was there. At the time he liked my best friend Michelle Silva. I don't think he would even remember me, but I have a couple of funny memories of him. One, he would do this strange sort of a dance with some sounds he made up. I remember we begged him to do it for us and he did.Thanks. Another one was a home leave flight home to the states ,we happened to be on the same plane. I walked back to the bathroom and passed him asleep with his mouth wide open for all other passengers to see. Sorry about not waking you to close it but it was funny. John Heinz sent me this blog. I am sad to hear this, but am glad things are looking better. I have and am praying for you all. Sue (Kendall) Fritz
Yahoo! good news.
I know it will good for all your soul's if David comes home this week. However, Shannon? Get some sleep now!
Strength and good thoughts and love is being sent your way.
Shannon and Dave... so glad that the latest procedure has been successful. We were worried about the setback last week, and happy that things have turned the corner. I hope the next post we see is Shannon telling us of your discharge from the hospital and your continued recovery at home.
Hugs to you both and to the kids.
